Regina (film website) investigates the life of Regina Jonas, the first woman to be ordained as a rabbi. The film was the initiative of director Diana Groo. George Weisz was producer and his daughter, Rachel Weisz, did the voice-over. ‘Groo’s film evokes the atmosphere of Berlin in the first half of the 20th century, using black and white archival footage, with voice-overs telling the story of Regina Jonas through narration, reading letters and other documents, and giving voice to the memories of those who knew Regina Jonas.’
The film will be introduced by Suzie Kelpie, George Weisz’s niece, and followed by discussion, with the participation of Rabbi Kate Briggs of Glasgow Reform Synagogue.
