Dr Stein is Lecturer in Politics and International Relations in the School of Social and Political Science, and Acting Joint Director of the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW), both of the University of Edinburgh. He lists among his interests Political Islam, Middle East Politics, Egyptian politics, Arab political thought, Arab-Israeli conflict, state-society relations, and International Relations of the Middle East.
